BEARIFICATION is a very important work for BEARÖMIXX, and this project represents one of the most important basic concepts of my world. BEARIFICATION refers to changing everything in this world to bears, and it is also a coined word derived from “personification.”
First, I paid attention to changing objects to bears in the city. However, I realized that the project was to bearnify (personify) the city itself when I made BEARIFICATION – YY (2019) in Yokohama, Japan.
Bearnified (personified) objects conveyed totally different moods between NYC and Yokohama. Therefore, the real purpose of this project is characterizing cities by changing objects to bears.
I tried this project in my city, Osaka, and I will indulge more in it in other cities as well.
BEARIFICATIONシリーズは、ベアロミックスの基盤の一つであるコンセプトを体現している、とても大切なプロジェクトです。BEARIFICATION（擬熊化）とは、この世の全てをクマ化するという意味で、「擬人化」からくる造語です。
このプロジェクトを開始したころ、街にあふれた身近な「モノ」を擬熊化することに注目していましたが、BEARIFICATION- YY (2019) を横浜で行った際、これはただモノを擬熊化するだけでなく、今この瞬間の街をそのまま切り取って擬熊化するというプロジェクトだということに気づきました。
実際、NYと横浜で擬熊化されたモノたちは、まったく違った雰囲気をもっており、それぞれの街が持つ特徴がそのままキャラクター化されています。つまり、擬熊化することで、街そのものをキャラ化するということが、このプロジェクトが持つ真のコンセプトだったのです。
このプロジェクトはベアロミックスの故郷である大阪でも行われ、さらに他の街での展開を予定しています。
